The WAYUU is a Native American ethnic group of the Guajira Peninsula in northernmost part of Colombia and northwest Venezuela on the Caribbean sea. The Wayuu are the biggest artisan community in the Americas.
It takes the women of the Wayuu tribe on average about five hours to make a double threaded Wayuu bag while single-threaded bags take 10 hours in total. This of course does not count the strap, as it is usually made by the men of the Wayuu community. Made by hand, much less in a technique that is handed down through generations and is a means of support for a community.
